Dear Reader,
I have always loved the fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast. It was my favorite Disney movie as a child, and as soon as I was old enough to read, I devoured not only the classical versions but as many iterations as I could find. Over the years, the tale of Beauty and her Beast has stuck with me, for its depiction of the power of love to transform not only our societal expectations but our personal beliefs. When Beauty first meets her Beast, she's armed with stories of what a cruel, murderous villain he is. But Beauty's kindness strikes something in the Beast, and soon they are both on this self-discovery quest. They bring out the best in each other.I've known that I was going to write stories for both Abigail and Michael since they appeared on the page in Secrets in Scarlet. Though neither shared scenes, their similar desire for acceptance, and their need to move beyond their pasts appealed to me. I wanted to do a different take on Beauty and the Beast, and after Abigail's scarring, I had my Beast. But what about my Beauty? While Michael Strickland is a handsome man, he's still got a lot of changing and growing up to do. So you could say in this sense...they are both Beauty, and they are both Beast. It is in their love for each other that they become changed creatures.I hope you enjoy my reverse Beauty and the Beast.
